Change a collaborator’s computer

To change a collaborator's computer, first unassign and reset the old device, then either assign a new one from your inventory or send an enrollment invitation for a new device, and ensure it's enrolled in the MDM for proper management.

Step 1: Managing the Old Computer

When changing a collaborator's computer, start by removing the computer currently assigned to them:

  • Unassign the computer in Factorial IT: go to the "Equipment" section and change the computer's status to "Unassigned".
  • Reset the computer: if necessary, perform a complete wipe of the device to remove all data.
  • Store or resell: decide whether you want to keep the computer in your stock or resell it. If you keep it in stock, it may be useful to take the opportunity to update the computer's status (poor, good, excellent condition).

Step 2: Assigning the New Computer

To assign a new computer to the collaborator, two options are possible:

  1. The computer in question is already part of your Factorial IT inventory
    • Identify the computer: in the "Equipment > Inventory" section, select the computer you want to assign.
    • Assign the computer: click on "Assign", then select the collaborator of your choice as the new owner.
    • Enroll the computer: if the MDM is not already installed on the computer, click on “Invite to MDM”
  2. The computer in question does not yet exist in Factorial IT (and you benefit from Factorial IT's MDM offer), then you simply need to send an enrollment invitation to the collaborator. Once the MDM is installed on the computer, it will be automatically created in Factorial IT.

Step 3: Enrolling the New Device in the MDM

In the context of option 1 above, you need to check whether the computer is managed by the MDM (Mobile Device Management) or not.

If it's not the case, as shown in the image above, then:

  • Click on "Invite to MDM" to send an enrollment invitation to the collaborator.
  • Ask the collaborator to follow the installation process sent to them by email and described here.

Once installed, the computer will appear as "Enrolled" in Factorial IT, indicating that it is now managed and secured by the MDM.

By following these steps, you will ensure a smooth transition when changing your collaborator's computer, while maintaining efficient management of your IT equipment through Primo.
