Cycle statuses in Salary Reviews

See where a cycle is in its lifecycle at a glance, and what can be done in it.

Every salary review cycle carries a status, shown on the cycle card and at the top of the cycle itself. The status tells you what stage the review has reached — and, more practically, who can act on it right now.

The statuses

Status What it means When it appears
Draft The cycle exists but nobody outside its Owners can see it. No request period has been set yet. As soon as a cycle is created.
Scheduled A request period has been set, but its start date hasn't arrived. Managers can see the cycle but can't propose. When an Owner sets a request period that starts in the future.
Open requests The request period is running. Managers propose changes for the people they manage. When the request period's start date arrives — or immediately, if the period set has already begun.
Under review Proposing has closed. Approvers decide the proposals for the lines they cover. When the request period's end date passes.
Closed The decisions are final and the approved changes have gone to contracts. When an Owner clicks Lock cycle.

The usual order

Draft → Scheduled → Open requests → Under review → Closed

A cycle skips Scheduled and goes straight from Draft to Open requests if the request period an Owner sets has already started.

What moves a cycle on

Most of the lifecycle runs on dates, not buttons. The request period an Owner sets is what opens the cycle to managers and what closes it to them again — there's nothing to click at either end.

The exception is the last step. Closed only happens when an Owner clicks Lock cycle, however many proposals have been decided. Deciding the final proposal changes nothing on its own.

Closed is final. A closed cycle can't be reopened, and nothing in it can be changed afterwards. A change approved by mistake has to be corrected in the employee's contract instead.

What you can do in each status

Draft

  • Owners set the scope, budget, guidelines and roles, ask One for suggestions, and set the request period.
  • Nobody else can see the cycle.

Scheduled

  • Owners can still change any setting, including the request period itself.
  • Managers, Approvers and Viewers can open the cycle but can't propose or decide.

Open requests

  • Managers create and edit proposals, write justifications and leave comments.
  • Owners can change the scope, budget and guidelines, ask One for fresh suggestions, and extend the request period's end date.
  • Approvers wait — deciding happens once proposing has closed.

Under review

  • Approvers calibrate amounts, then approve or reject, individually or in bulk.
  • Owners can still change settings, and are the only ones who can lock the cycle.
  • Managers can no longer create or edit proposals.

Closed

  • Nobody can change anything.
  • The approved changes are on employees' contracts with their effective dates, and recorded as updates in Compensation.

Deleting a cycle

An Owner can delete a cycle in any status, including Closed.

Deleting removes the cycle and every proposal in it. It doesn't undo contract changes that have already been applied — those are reversed in Contracts, not here.
