Overview
In Factorial, employee retirement is processed as a termination. In some countries (Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Brazil, and Germany), you can select “retirement” as the termination reason, allowing you to properly document the employee’s departure. In other markets, this option may not be available, and alternative approaches are needed.
Also there is an offboarding workflow option, that you can use to terminate employees.

When and why it should be used
Use this functionality when an employee is leaving the company due to retirement. Recording the correct termination reason helps maintain accurate employee records and ensures proper reporting and compliance where applicable.
How to use
- On your sidebar, go to Organization
- Select the employee and Click on Terminate
- Select the termination date
- In the termination reason field:
- If you are in Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Brazil, or Germany, select Retirement (if available).
- If you are in another market, choose the most appropriate available reason (e.g. “Other”) and document the retirement in internal notes if needed.
- Confirm the termination.

Tips and Best Practices
- Use termination reasons consistently to ensure accurate reporting.
- If “Retirement” is not available in your country, consider adding context in internal notes or documentation for clarity.
- Align with your company’s internal HR policies when classifying employee exits.
- If retirement tracking is important for your organization, you may standardize a naming convention internally (e.g. always using “Other – Retirement”).
