You can now create a new time-tracking policy by copying an existing one instead of starting from scratch. The copied policy keeps the existing settings, so you only need to update the details that are different.

Overview

Use policy duplication when you need to create a time-tracking policy that is similar to an existing one.

When you create a policy from a copy, its settings are automatically pre-filled. This saves time and reduces the risk of missing or incorrectly entering settings that should remain the same.

How to use

  1. In your sidebar, go to Settings
  2. Go to Time tracking
  3. Locate Time tracking policies
  4. Start creating a time-tracking policy by clicking on Add policy
  5. Choose Starts from another policy instead of From scratch
  6. Select the existing policy you want to copy
  7. Enter a name for the new policy
  8. Assign the relevant people to the policy
  9. Update the settings that are different from the original policy

Tips and best practices

  • Start from the policy that is most similar to the one you need to create
  • Review all settings before saving, even if you only expect to change one or two
  • Give the new policy a clear name so you can easily distinguish it from the original
  • Check the people assigned to the new policy carefully to make sure the copied policy applies to the right group
  • Use duplication when policies share most of their settings to avoid unnecessary manual configuration
