How to use
- Go to MDM > Controls > Add new control and choose Screen capture blocking.
- Choose where the control applies: all macOS devices, specific device groups, or a custom target. There is nothing else to set.
How it works
Factorial IT sends an MDM restriction that switches off the macOS screenshot and screen recording APIs. Keyboard shortcuts stop working, and no application can capture the screen.
Change or switch off the control
Open the control from MDM > Controls to edit or disable it. Disabling stops enforcement. It does not remove settings already applied on devices.
Tips and Best Practices
- Target only the people who need it. Blocking capture affects every app, so apply it to device groups that handle sensitive data rather than to every Mac.
- Warn employees before you apply it. Shortcuts and recording tools stop capturing the screen, so tell people why.
- Test it on one device group first. Check that daily work still runs before widening the target.
Troubleshooting and FAQ
Troubleshooting
- An employee cannot capture their screen in an app. This is expected on targeted Macs: no application can capture the screen. Remove the device from the target if it needs that ability.
- Screenshots still work after you disabled the control. Disabling stops enforcement but does not remove settings already on the device.
FAQ
-
Do I need to configure anything apart from the target?
No. Choose the devices and the control does the rest.
-
Does it work on Windows, iPhone or Android?
No. It only supports macOS.
-
Does it block keyboard shortcuts only?
No. It blocks the shortcuts and any application that tries to capture the screen.
