Blocking Requests by 15/30 Minutes for Hourly Allowances

This feature ensures that hourly allowances can only be requested in clear 15- or 30-minute blocks, making absence management more accurate and consistent.

Table of Contents

Overview

This feature ensures that employees can only request absences in blocks of 15 or 30 minutes when using hourly allowances with a fixed balance. It improves accuracy by rounding accrued time to the nearest 15 or 30-minute block, avoiding previous inconsistencies with decimals and partial-day rounding.

Use this feature if your company tracks absences or allowances by the hour and needs requests limited to precise 15- or 30-minute increments. This prevents errors in absence requests, simplifies tracking, and aligns requested time with the way allowances accrue.

How to Use

This functionality applies to Fixed Balance Hourly Allowances. It ensures employees can only request absences in 15- or 30-minute increments.

  1. On your sidebar menu, go to the Absences section in Factorial
  2. Select Request Time Off
  3. Choose an allowance with the type Fixed Balance (hourly)
  4. Enter the start time of the absence (e.g., 09:00)
  5. Enter the duration. You can only select durations in 15-minute or 30-minute increments (e.g., 1h 30m, 2h 15m)
  6. Submit the request. The system will validate that the duration follows the new rule

When you submit it with decimal, it won't let you save it:

Tips and Best Practices

  • Remind employees that irregular durations (such as 1h 13m) are no longer accepted.
  • Past requests remain unchanged—only new requests follow the block system.
  • For allowances that are not Fixed Balance (hourly), this rule does not apply.

The available and taken counters are not rounded to 15 or 30 minutes; they always remain exact, while only the accrued balance is adjusted to the nearest block.
