When you create goals with Create an individual goal for each person, Factorial creates them in the background and emails you when the creation finishes or fails. These emails (also called goal alerts or goal notifications) are the goals notifications Factorial sends.
Before you start
- You need Create key results in Settings > Permissions > Goals.
- The emails go to the person who started the goal creation, at the email address of their Factorial account.
Step by step
Create individual goals for a group and get notified
- Go to Performance > Goals and click New Goal.
- In Assign to, choose the people or group.
- Under Options, select Create an individual goal for each person.
- Complete the wizard and click Submit.
- A message confirms "Goals are being created. You will be notified when they are ready."
- When the creation finishes, you receive an email with the subject "Your bulk goal creation has finished". If it fails, the subject is "Your bulk goal creation failed".
- Click View in Factorial in the email to open the goals.
Rules and behavior
- If you create goals with Create an individual goal for each person, then Factorial creates them in the background and sends you one email at the end.
- If the creation finishes, then the email says: 'The individual goals for "<goal name>" have been created.'
- If the creation fails, then nothing is saved and the email says: 'The individual goals for "<goal name>" could not be created. Nothing was saved. You can review the selection and try again.'
- If someone in the selection left the company before the goals were created, then no goal is created for that person.
- The two emails appear in the notification settings under Goals Management as Bulk goal creation finished and Bulk goal creation failed. They can't be turned off.
Limitations
- You can't change who receives the bulk creation emails. They always go to the person who created the goals.
- You can't schedule reminders to update goal progress.
Troubleshooting
- Symptom: "I never received the bulk creation email." → Cause: The creation is still running, or the email went to the address on your Factorial account. → Fix: Check your spam folder and refresh Performance > Goals after a few minutes.
- Symptom: "I received 'Your bulk goal creation failed'." → Cause: The selected group had no members left, or the creation hit an error. Nothing was saved. → Fix: Review the selection in Assign to and create the goal again.
- Symptom: "The new goals don't appear in the list." → Cause: The creation is still running, or the date navigator shows a different period. → Fix: Wait for the email, then set the date navigator to the goal's period.
