One can now read data directly from your spreadsheets, making it easier to complete bulk tasks without manually copying and pasting information. By uploading an Excel (.xlsx) or CSV file, One can understand your data and use it to support file-based workflows in Factorial.
Overview
Many HR, Finance, and administrative processes rely on spreadsheets, such as headcount planning, salary tables, cost allocations, or employee lists. With file uploads, One can use the information stored in these files as the basis for completing bulk actions.
When you upload an Excel (.xlsx) or CSV file in a One conversation, One reads the file's structure and contents, including its columns, rows, and values. It then uses this information as the source of truth for supported workflows.
Uploading a file does not modify the original spreadsheet. One only reads the information it contains.
This functionality is the foundation for file-based experiences in One, including:
- Bulk Cost Centers Assignment
- Headcount Planning (coming soon)
How to use
- Open a conversation with One
- Upload an Excel (.xlsx) or CSV (.csv) file using the file upload option
- Wait for One to process the file
- Once the file has been read, ask One to perform a supported action using the uploaded data
- Review the results provided by One before completing any suggested workflow

If the file cannot be uploaded, verify that the file is in .xlsx or .csv format and check that the file is not corrupted or password-protected. If the issue persists, contact your organisation's support team.
If One doesn't understand your data, ensure your spreadsheet includes consistent column headers and structured data and remove unnecessary blank rows or columns that could make the file harder to interpret.
If the uploaded file isn't producing the expected results, confirm that the workflow you're trying to complete supports file uploads and review the uploaded data to ensure it contains the required information for the task. If you're unsure which fields are required, consult the documentation for the specific workflow or contact Support.
Tips and best practices
- Make sure your spreadsheet contains clear column headers to help One correctly interpret the data.
- Review your file before uploading to ensure the information is complete and up to date.
- Use either .xlsx or .csv formats, as these are the supported file types.
- Keep the original spreadsheet as your source file. One reads the file but never changes its contents.
