You can now assign IT assets directly during the onboarding process, ensuring that every device is linked to the right employee from their first day. This improves asset traceability and helps IT teams maintain accurate records from the moment a new hire joins the company.
In this article, you'll learn how to assign devices during onboarding and how device tracking works across different IT Management configurations.
Overview
The onboarding flow includes a dedicated device section that allows you to assign IT assets to new employees as part of the onboarding process. Once a device is assigned, it is linked to the employee, creating a clear record of who is responsible for the asset. This gives IT teams visibility into device ownership from day one and helps keep inventory records up to date.
The device section displayed during onboarding depends on your account configuration and may include:
- Ticketing only
- IT Inventory and Ticketing
- IT Inventory, Ticketing, and Device catalog
When and why it should be used
Use this feature whenever a new employee requires company equipment. Benefits include:
- Tracking device ownership from the employee's first day
- Maintaining accurate IT asset records
- Improving visibility into assigned equipment
- Reducing manual tracking and follow-up tasks
- Supporting a more structured onboarding process between HR and IT teams

If the Device section does not appear during onboarding, your account configuration may not include device management features or the feature is not available for your current IT Management setup. Check your IT Management configuration and contact your account administrator if you believe access is missing. Contact Support if the issue persists.
If you cannot assign a device, review your available inventory and verify the status of the selected device. Choose another available device if needed.
If the assigned device is not linked to the employee, confirm that the onboarding process was completed successfully, review the employee's assigned assets and reassign the device if necessary. Contact Support if the issue continues.
