To synchronise employee data with DATEV, all fields required for the Tätigkeitsschlüssel must be completed for every employee. In this article, you'll learn how to map job titles to DATEV occupation codes and where to find the remaining required information in Factorial.
Overview
The Tätigkeitsschlüssel is a nine-digit occupational classification code used in Germany for employment reporting. In Factorial, the information required to generate this code comes from the employee's job mapping, personal details, and employment contract.
The nine digits correspond to the following fields:
| Digit(s) | Field | Where to find it in Factorial |
|---|---|---|
| 1–5 | Main activity / occupation | DATEV integration settings, under Roles |
| 6 | Highest general education level | Employee profile → Personal details |
| 7 | Highest vocational qualification | Employee profile → Personal details |
| 8 | Employment form / temporary work | Employee profile → Personal details and Contracts |
| 9 | Contract type | Employee profile → Contracts |
All required fields must be completed for every employee to ensure successful data synchronisation with DATEV.
When and why to use it
Use this setup when configuring the DATEV integration or preparing employee data for synchronisation.
Correctly completing the required information helps you:
- Synchronise employee data with DATEV
- Map each employee's job title to the appropriate official occupation code
- Ensure that the information required for German employment reporting is available
- Identify missing employee data before attempting synchronisation
How to use
1. Set up the main activity / occupation (digits 1–5)
Before mapping job titles, make sure the DATEV integration is configured and connected and that all relevant job titles have been added to the Job Catalog in Factorial.
- Open Factorial Entdecken
- Go to Integrationen
- Find the DATEV integration and open its settings using the settings icon

- Navigate through the configuration steps until you reach Rollen

- Review the list of jobs on the left. These are the job titles added to your Job Catalog in Factorial
- For each job, open the dropdown menu on the right and select the corresponding DATEV occupation code.
- Search for the appropriate occupation using the Tätigkeitsnummer or job title
- Repeat this process for every job in the list. Each Factorial job must be mapped to a corresponding DATEV occupation code
- Once all jobs have been mapped, click Speichern
Important: If you add a new job to the Job Catalog later, return to the integration settings and map it to the appropriate DATEV occupation code before synchronising the relevant employee data.

Tips and best practices
- Map every job title. All jobs in the Factorial Job Catalog must have a corresponding DATEV occupation code.
- Review new job titles regularly. Whenever you add a job to the catalog, check whether it needs to be mapped in the DATEV integration settings.
- Check personal details and contracts separately. The required information is stored in different sections of the employee profile.
- Verify the information for every employee. Completing the integration mapping alone is not enough; the required employee-level fields must also be filled in.
- Use the official occupation classification when mapping jobs. If you're unsure which DATEV occupation code corresponds to a job title, consult the relevant official classification or your payroll advisor.
- Keep employee information up to date. Changes to qualifications, employment status, or contract type may require you to review the corresponding fields.
