In a performance review that includes the Peer review type, peers are not assigned automatically. Once the review is Active, admins, review owners and each person's direct manager choose which colleagues evaluate them. Every peer you assign gets their own peer evaluation to fill in.
Before you start
- The review must include the Peer review type and be Active.
- Managers can assign peers for their direct reports. Admins and owners can assign peers for everyone in the review.
- Any employee can be a peer, including people who aren't being evaluated in the review.
Step by step
- Go to Performance > Reviews and open the active review.
- In the Insights tab, find the Peer assignment card ("Assign peers to other employees"). It shows how many people are still pending.
- Click Assign peers. The Peer assignments side panel lists each person with their Manager, Peers and Status (Pending or Assigned).
- On a person's row, click Assign.
- In Assign peers to <name>, select one or more colleagues and confirm.
- To remove peers, click Remove on the row, select the peers in Remove peers for <name>, and confirm.

Rules and behavior
- If you assign a peer, then the peer receives the email "You have new peer evaluations waiting for your answer" and a task in their inbox.
- If the peer already has a pending peer evaluation in the review, then they don't get a second "assigned as peer" email.
- If people are added to an active review, then their managers get the email "You have new peers to assign" and a task.
- If you remove a peer, then that peer evaluation is deleted with its answers.
- If Make peer review anonymous is on, then the evaluated person doesn't see who their peers are. Admins, owners and their manager do.
- You can't assign someone as a peer of themselves, and you can't assign the same peer twice to the same person.
- If the review is Finished, then peers can't be assigned or removed.
Limitations
- You can't assign peers before the review launches.
- You can't let employees nominate or approve their own peers.
- You can't set a minimum or maximum number of peers.
- You can't import peer assignments from a file.
Troubleshooting
- Symptom: "I don't see the Peer assignment card." → Cause: the review has no Peer review type, isn't Active, or you manage nobody in it. → Fix: check the review types and status.
- Symptom: "A colleague isn't in the list to choose." → Cause: they are the person being evaluated or are already assigned as a peer. → Fix: check the person's current peers.
- Symptom: "Requested peers have already been assigned to the evaluated person." → Cause: the peer is already assigned. → Fix: no action needed.
